Who Said Entrepreneurs Can’t Dance?

Why entrepreneurs should dance.

Take time off your busy schedule to dance. Once you start dancing, you’ll never want to stop!

There’s something so liberating about dancing. It really is about letting your hair down, enjoying the music and grooving to it. When you are on the dance floor, you forget about all your problems; you truly let go. It’s only you, the pulsating music and your groove!

And as an entrepreneur, you really need to let your hair down once in a way. You can’t be caught up all the time in the nitty-gritties of your business. Remember that old saying – ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’? Well, forget work once in a way and pump that music and move.

Even if you have two left feet, who cares? When people are dancing, they are totally involved in themselves. So just get on the floor and do your thing. Or, you could sign up for dance classes – Bollywood, jazz, ballroom or even Zumba, which is basically dancercise.

You may be rolling your eyes by now and thinking – I’m a busy entrepreneur. I barely have time to relax and I’m being asked to dance. Seriously?

Well, seriously…yes! Let’s list some benefits of dancing, and maybe that will get you boogieing…

Dancing makes you happy.

It makes you happy: Yes, you get all sweaty and tired, but when you dance to music you love, you are in a different zone. You’re chilled out, you’re enjoying yourself, your endorphins kick in and when you get off the dance floor, you’re on a high – a happy high.  Dance actually elevates our endorphin levels – those feel-good hormones.

It makes you fit: Dance is a great form of exercise. You can use up loads of calories. Dance burns five to ten calories per minute. And you end up losing weight and getting trim. Instead of pounding the treadmill and walking or jogging monotonously for half an hour, why don’t you dance to your favorite music? It’s definitely more enjoyable!

Dance makes you flexible.

Dance makes you more flexible: Sitting at your desk all day makes you stiff and over time, you lose flexibility. Dance is a great way to stay flexible – all that twisting and turning will make you ease your stiffness.

It’s a stress-buster:  Let’s face it, entrepreneurs are stressed out most of the time. Running your own business is not easy. But excessive stress is not good for us and we all know that. When you dance, you’re happy and happiness is a sure antidote to stress.

Dancing is a great stress-buster.

It’s great for your heart health: Stress and inactivity can cause cardiovascular problems. Dancing is aerobic exercise. Plus, it’s a stress-buster.

Dance is an energy booster: Working day in and day out, sometimes even over the weekends, can really zap an entrepreneur’s energy levels. Dance is a great pick-me-up.  A half-hour to one-hour dance session is rejuvenating. Just what you need when your energy levels are flagging.

Dancing leads to socializing.

You get to meet new people: If you join a dance class or regularly go to a discotheque, you end up meeting more people and socializing more. This helps you in two ways. If you are a home entrepreneur or have your own business, chances are that you isolate yourself because you’re too busy growing your business.  On the other hand, as an entrepreneur, you need to network – that’s how you can grow your business. So, signing up for a dance class can help you in both ways – to socialize and network.

It adds to your poise: The more you dance, the more graceful you will become. And, grace and poise are an advantage when you run your own business. Being poised means you create a favorable impression on the people you meet with whether for business or personal reasons.

You could choose to join a dance class, go dancing with your partner or – if you are shy – dance at home.  Wherever you choose to boogie, be assured that you will enjoy it. All those endorphins will kick in and you’ll feel relaxed and refreshed. So, what are you waiting for? Go put on those dancing shoes!
