Unwind. It’s the Weekend!

Enjoy your weekends. It’s when you need to take a break and chill.

If you run a home business or you’re an entrepreneur, it’s quite likely that you are burning the candle at both ends. And probably even working over the weekends. However, it’s important for you to take a break. Otherwise your stress levels are just going to shoot up while your energy levels plummet. You need that break, you need to unwind, you need to chill. That’s the only way you can kick-start your batteries and be ready to face the next week pumped up with energy and determination.

So here are some great ways to unwind over the weekend:

Unwind with family over the weekend.

Spend time with your family: Chances are that thanks to your frenetic pace, you’re probably burning the midnight oil, which means that you barely get to see your family. Set aside time to spend quality time with your loved ones – go out for lunch or dinner, go on a picnic or a long drive, head out on the occasional weekend to some nearby resort, spend a whole day at the mall, go for a movie…there are so many things you can do. If you have kids, take them out somewhere – to the beach, a museum, a game, a carnival…or even spend time in the garden or play area playing football, badminton or any game with them. If it’s a rainy day, enjoy a cozy day with your loved ones over steaming hot cups of cocoa playing board games.

Catch up with friends.

Catch up with friends: Apart from the WhatsApp texts and some exchanges on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, you probably have no time to speak to or see your friends. Friends are like a pick-me-up – spending time with them laughing, joking and catching up on all the news is bound to make you feel relaxed and happy. As Khalil Gibran says, “In the sweetness of life, let there be laughter and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.” If you have a regular gang of friends, make it a point to catch up with them on Saturday night or for a Sunday brunch. If you have a large circle of friends, catch up with a few every weekend. Meet them for a coffee, call them home, go to a bar, catch a film…there’s so much you can do.

Go for a digital detox.

Go for a digital detox: This doesn’t mean that you can’t check your phone at all although that would be ideal! Nevertheless, you could go easy on constantly peering into your smartphone. Make it a point to check it only once, or max, twice a day for all social media notifications. For the rest of the time, be present in the moment. Forget the virtual world and savor the real world.

Carve out me-time to unwind.

Enjoy some quiet me-time: Take some time off to be with yourself. Do whatever you like to do. It could be curling up in a comfy sofa and reading a book; it could be lying back and listening to your favorite music; it could be scheduling a trek every weekend; it could be watching your favorite serial or movie or catching a game on TV; it could be a relaxing walk in the park…

Get yourself a massage.

Pamper yourself: Nothing like some good old self-indulgence – it’s the ultimate relaxation! Schedule a whole-body massage or a head massage at your salon; you could also get a facial, manicure and pedicure. Not only will it relax you, you’ll also have this healthy glow!

Giving back.

Give back: Volunteering is a great way of looking outside yourself. You give happiness to others and thereby gift yourself happiness as well. Also, when you see people who are so beset with problems, it puts your own problems in perspective. You could volunteer at an old-age home or an orphanage. If you are an animal lover, you could volunteer at a local animal shelter. Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

Unwind over the weekend.

Learn something new: You might wonder – but isn’t the weekend all about relaxing? Yes, it is, but you can also challenge your brain or your body into learning something new. Not only is it fun, it is also something that you will be doing outside of your work – a new skill that allows you to break free from the shackles of single-mindedly thinking only about work challenges. Join a yoga class, learn dancing or how to play a musical instrument, learn tennis or swimming, cooking, baking, knitting, photography…anything.

Catch up on sleep.

Catch up on your sleep: Odds are that you are sleep deprived owing to your hectic schedule. Sleep in late on the weekends and catch a snooze in the afternoon too. It will refresh and rejuvenate you. Remember, sleep – or the lack of it – can significantly affect your mood, your ability to concentrate and your productivity. So, make sure you get that much-required shut-eye!

Ultimately, choose to spend your weekend absorbed in doing whatever you enjoy. Let your hair down. Chill. You need it. Whether, it’s packing your weekend with a whole load of activities or whether it’s about staying home and relaxing, the choice is yours. But, put the work away and take it easy!
