Maybe you are the kind of person who spends a few minutes every day on skincare or maybe you have a dedicated daily routine. Whatever your day-to-day discipline, here are the most common skincare mistakes that will sabotage all your efforts and lead to damage and premature ageing of your skin.

Using unsuitable skincare products: To really see good results, it is important to use skincare products that are formulated for your unique skin type. Get expert opinion on what your exact skin type is before you buy products. Try to get products that are exclusively created for your skin type rather than products which claim to be for ‘all skin types’. Using skincare products contrary to your skin type is a major skincare mistake.

Using inadequate sunscreen: Premature ageing of the skin happens primarily due to exposure to UV rays and most of that exposure to UV rays comes from incidental exposure. You may not apply sunscreen on a cloudy day or when you don’t have direct exposure to sunlight – at home or in the car. Nevertheless, UV rays will continue to damage your skin even under these circumstances. So, if you really want wrinkle-free skin, make sure to lather on the sunscreen every day of the year, whether you are indoors or outdoors.

Not exfoliating regularly: Most people miss out on some major skin benefits by not exfoliating regularly. Using facial scrubs made for your skin type at least twice or three times a week can remove the dead layer of cells on the outside to give you a smoother and brighter appearance.

Not removing makeup before bedtime: No matter how tired you are at the end of a long day, never forget to go to bed with a squeaky clean face. Makeup that is left on overnight can trap oil and dirt, clogging the pores and damaging your skin. Makeup also contains ingredients that can cause skin irritation and prevent regeneration of new skin cells.

You don’t always need expensive lotions to ensure that your skin is well taken care of. Following a simple daily routine and avoiding the common skincare blunders can work just as well.
