Olive Oil for Super Soft Skin

Olive oil is a rich source of the vitamins and minerals and helps our skin remain young and smooth.

Glowing skin is a sign of good health. Pollution, environmental changes, dietary habits, stress… all contribute to the state of the skin – which most of the time can do with more pampering.

Olive oil, a very rich source of vitamins, minerals and natural fatty acids needed to keep the skin glowing, works well even on sensitive skin. Used in anti-aging skin care products, it is rich in antioxidants, prevents skin aging by removing wrinkles and fine lines, nourishes, rejuvenates and protects the skin. Vitamin E and A, present in olive oil, help in keeping the skin youthful, hydrated, elastic and soft as it regenerates skin cells. Olive oil is a ‘humectant’ that draws moisture into your skin.

Olive Oil1Bathe with olive oil: The Italian actress, Sophia Loren once revealed her love for olive oil baths. No wonder she had glowing, fresh skin. And it is so easy too! Just add five tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil into your bathtub for soft, smooth skin. Or, apply the oil on your body before a bath. Remember to pat dry; don’t rub the towel over your skin. You can also apply it in the bath after using shower gel to keep your skin young and healthy.

Olive oil as a makeup remover: Makeup can cause skin to dry up. Apply a little olive oil on a cotton pad and remove makeup at night; it will nourish your skin. For heavy makeup, massage olive oil all over your face and then wipe it with a cloth soaked in warm water. After removing makeup, rinse your face with warm water and then splash cold water to stimulate the blood circulation and close pores.

Olive oil for your eyes: You can use olive oil to remove eye makeup as well. It is also a great eye cream, rejuvenating the tender skin around the eyes and softening fine lines. Gently dab some olive oil under your eyes at bedtime or in the morning.

Olive oil face mask: Mix one egg yolk with a tablespoon of olive oil and lemon, apply on your face for 5-10 minutes, rinse with first warm, then cold water and get the glow you love.

Olive Oil2Alternatively, mix a tablespoon of olive oil with white cosmetic clay, apply it to your face for about 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Apart from this, you can also:

  • Soften your hands by applying a little olive oil to keep it soft.
  • Treat and prevent hang nails by applying it around the nail area.
  • Add a little aloe vera to help your skin absorb the olive oil faster and deeper.

As winter approaches, the skin is going to demand greater attention. But no worries. A little olive oil can protect your skin from becoming dry and itchy.
