Natural Remedies to Prevent Hair Loss

Urban living, stress, bad diet – so many things contribute to hair loss. Read on for natural remedies to protect your crowning glory…

Losing hair is normal as long as it is only a few strands every day. But when hair fall is excessive and on the rise with each passing day, you definitely have to sit up and take notice. Or you will end up seeing bald spots instead of hair on your head. You don’t have to worry about expensive or elaborate hair treatments as there are several natural ways to deal with hair fall and prevent hair loss.

Oil massage: Increase blood flow to your hair follicles by massaging your scalp with warm oil at least once a week. The increased blood supply will strengthen hair roots and condition the scalp with the bonus of leaving you relaxed. You could try coconut, olive, castor or wheat germ oil. Adding a few drops of rosemary essential oil is also recommended.

Hair mask: Prepare a hair mask with naturally available ingredients like banana, honey and coconut oil. You can alternate these with pastes of neem leaves or fenugreek seeds. The medicinal properties of these fruits, herbs and oils rebuild hair follicles and stimulate hair growth.

Vegetables: Extracting the juice of onion for hair application is a good way to treat hair fall. The high sulfur content in onions improves blood circulation to the hair follicles and regenerates them. Onion juice also has antibacterial properties which can treat scalp infections and kills germs or parasites that cause hair loss. Beetroots are good for supplementing the nutritional deficiency that causes hair loss. So including this vegetable in your regular diet will provide a continual source of nutrition to your hair.

Gooseberry pulp: Gooseberry pulp mixed with lime juice provides Vitamin C which is required for hair growth. Gooseberry has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties that aid in maintaining a healthy scalp and in hair growth. Massage the mixture of gooseberry pulp and lime juice into the scalp and leave it covered overnight with a shower cap. Wash it off in the morning for healthy, well-conditioned hair.

Aloe vera: Applying aloe vera juice or gel on the scalp or consuming a teaspoon of its juice on an empty stomach is good for reducing hair fall. The enzymes in the aloe vera promote hair growth. Aloe vera has alkaline properties that maintain the pH level of the scalp and hair at the desirable levels for hair growth. Aloe vera is also great for reducing scalp itchiness, dandruff and inflammation; it also makes your hair stronger and shinier.
