How to Clean Your Microwave

microwaves

Microwaves have become an essential part of our fast-paced lives. Be sure to treat them well.

Microwave cooking is a lot easier and faster as less energy is used than for cooking done on a gas stove. Right from popping out crunchy popcorn to whipping up a five-course meal, microwaves are a handy kitchen appliance. But like all appliances being used regularly, microwaves tend to get dirty with stains, crumbs, dirt and spills.

Here are five ways to clean a microwave:

  1. Make a paste of baking soda and water in the ratio of 2:1 and apply on hardened grime on the turntable or the floor of the microwave. Leave for about six minutes. Wipe out the baking soda with a wet cloth or sponge and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. For a regular clean up, place some wet paper towels inside the microwave and run it on high for about five minutes. The steam from the wetness of the paper will soften any dirt. After the paper towels cool down, you can wipe off the interior of the microwave to make it dust and stain free.
  3. Another way of maintaining your microwave is to place a large microwave bowl filled with water, chopped up lime and a few tablespoons of vinegar. The bowl should be filled to quarter. Keep the microwave on high for about six minutes or until the solution begins to boil. The window should get steamed up. Wait for about 15 minutes for the solution to cool and open the door. Remove the bowl and wipe clean with a dry cloth to get a polished look.
  4. To remove grease that might have fallen in the microwave while cooking food, sprinkle common salt over the grease. Do this before the microwave is turned on. After the cooking is completed, the grease would have turned into ash because of the salt and you can easily wipe it off.
  5. The exterior of the microwave, like the rubber gasket and door, can be cleaned with a sponge. Wet the sponge only with water. For greasy windows, vinegar can be mixed into the water. After wiping with the wet sponge, wipe dry with a cloth.

It is easy to clean and maintain a microwave. So, do it regularly.
